'Art of the Print' Show at the Kentlands Arts Barn
Two of my prints are juried into this show. The Monoprint, 'Sea Otters At Risk' and the Lithograph, 'Arctic Refuge: Caribou' are from my Alaska Environmental Art Portfolio.
I developed a deep connection to Alaska following volunteer work at the Sea Otter Rescue Center, in the wake of the Exxon Valdeez Oil Spil in 1989. After my volunteer work with the sea otters, I researched cleanup efforts by state and federal agencies in the aftermath of Oil Spills and its impact on native ecosystems. The AK body of work is described here: www.tinathiemebrown/exxon-valdez
"Sea Otters Lost" a monoprint depicting the number of sea otters lost as a result of the Exxon Valdeez Oil Spill in Alaska1989.
A lithograph, "Arctic Refuge, Caribou Calving" celebrates the Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that is the traditional Caribou calving ground. There has been constant pressure for oil exploration in this pristine habitat, where Caribou migrate in spring to calve.
